What's in a name? A lot when you're in the Russell world. Our dogs are dual-registered as Parson Russells in the American Kennel Club and as Jack Russells in the United Kennel Club. The AKC changed the name of the breed in 2003, but is the only domestic registry that uses the Parson name. The name change was to put the breed in line with the kennel club in Great Britain, the terrier's country of origin.
Incidentally, the short-legged version of the Jack Russell is known as the English Jack Russell by some groups in America and is recognized as the Russell Terrier by the United Kennel Club.
